Eagle Ford Operator Reduces Equipment Footprint by 66% with the Sahara Advanced Sand Cyclone

THE PROBLEM
An operator in Eagle Ford was using outdated flowback practices and low-tech equipment. On a 6-well setup, the operator had 3 sand separators per well, for a total of 18 sand separators.
Due to this large number of sand management units, they were dealing with high labor costs. The operator needed a way to reduce the equipment footprint without reducing the ability to capture sand from the wellstream.
THE SOLUTION
EnerCorp’s engineering team reviewed the 6-well setup and knew we could optimize this operator’s flowback. We were given a couple of trials, and proved our worth with the Sahara Advanced Sand Cyclone.
On a recent 7-well pad for the operator, we reviewed the characteristics including the range of flow rates for oil, water, and gas, as well as the varying wellhead pressures, solid and sand particle sizes, and anticipated sand volumes.
Our team determined that the best sand management solution would be the Sahara Advanced Sand Cyclone. Instead of using 21 sand knockouts on the 7-pad wellsite like their previous setup on the 6-well pad, this operator can now capture sand using only 7 Sahara Advanced Sand Cyclones and an optimized flowback 2.0 setup.

SAND CAPTURE RATE
THE RESULT
The Eagle Ford Operator was able to reduce their equipment footprint by 66% thanks to the highly effective Sahara Advanced Sand Cyclone. It captures 97%+ of sand so that virtually no sand enters the production facility or causes any damage to the equipment. Typical sand knockouts only capture about 50% to 80% of sand in the production stream.
This operator can now:
- Reduce 66% of the equipment footprint
- Minimize labor costs associated with managing the sand management equipment
- Capture 97%+ of sand from the production stream.
In addition, this operator has decided to run flanged iron, which gives them the option to eliminate manpower from the wellsite as sand production slows. With The Sahara Advanced Sand Cyclone’s large containment vessel, they can implement a sand route towards the end of flowback to further cut costs.
