Almost every company in the oil and gas industry has a safety program that has some form of safety observations that are to be submitted. Some companies choose to give a quota, some choose to award prizes for the most submissions, and others have various unique methods. Commonly, these submissions default to pointing out failures. While it is crucial to find and correct unsafe issues, it is also important to celebrate safety.
In an effort to recognize and reward safety, the EnerCorp HSE team has launched the Atta-Boy program. An Atta-boy submission can be completed by supervisors, managers, and corporate employees when they see an employee excelling in safety. This program allows us to recognize and reward employees when they go above and beyond what is expected.
Here are a handful of Atta-Boy submissions from this year so far:
Atta-Boy Awarded to: Lari Laine
The team was in the process of building a large piping package. Lari had one of the heaviest spools tacked up and ready to weld. He didn’t like the way he had the piece set up in the positioner, so he asked for advice on how to better set the spool up to be as safe as possible. The team brainstormed and came up with a good, sage, strong method of rolling the spool. Sometimes two heads are better than one. Good job asking for help Lari!
Atta-Boy Awarded to: Michael Hair
Michael Hair asked the safety team if they had extra earplugs and safety glasses to spare. He wanted them so he could give them to the construction workers who were across the street from our MidlandOne facility. He first asked the construction workers if they had PPE and they said no. So, Michael took it upon himself and went out of his way to get them the required PPE they would need. These construction workers had nothing to do with EnerCorp, and they were not working for us. Michael Hair showed what EnerCorp’s core values mean.
Atta-Boy Awarded to: Kody Pinkston
During a pressure test, Kody was told by the customer to be at the gate and control who was coming on location. The customer told the field supervisor that he did a great job handling site control and going over JSA conversations with everyone who was allowed on location. He didn’t move from that spot all day – even after the pressure test was done.
Please join us in congratulating these outstanding individuals. Do you have an Atta-Boy story to share?
